Recent and upcoming events

The Consortium is involved in a number of local, regional and national activities. The major event is the Annual General Meeting, usually held in May or June, at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in Fossgate, York. It is held in partnership with the York Civic Trust and has three components:

  • The formal business meeting;
  • The award of bursaries to apprentices and to professional crafts persons and conservators to advance their skills;
  • The John Shannon Lecture in memory of a former Chairman of the Civic Trust who did so much to protect and conserve York’s built heritage.

Other activities include:

  • Participating in the annual Wild about Wood week-end in September at the Castle Howard Arboretum
  • Annual meeting with students attending the MA in Conservation Studies at the University of York;
  • Representing the Consortium at the York College Construction Awards Ceremony in March when a bursary prize, funded by the York Consortium, is given to a trainee;
  • Occasional outings to view interesting conservation projects;
  • Visits to practitioners’ workshops;
  • Attending craft-based events in the region.
