Following the Consortium's AGM the eighth John Shannon Conservation Lecture was delivered by Chris Webb and Catherine Dand, of the Borthwick Institute. Catherine was herself a recipient of one of the Consortium's bursaries in 2009.
Their lecture was on the subject of the conservation of the Lascelles archive from Harewood House. After Chris Webb illustrated the historical value of the archive for the study of slavery on West Indian Plantations, Catherine Dand described the technical processes required to make the damaged archive accessible for study, and Chris Webb concluded by outlining the funding pressures constraining the conservation of important archives and suggested how these might be met.
