The Yorkshire region of English Heritage serves the twenty two local authority areas of Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire covering the former Yorkshire and Humberside area. Dealing with one of the richest historic regions of England, regional staff are concerned with the management and conservation of every historic building, ancient monument and historic area.
We directly manage and invite visitors to 34 of the most important properties, including the great medieval religious houses of Whitby, Mount Grace and Riveaulx, and the castles of Scarborough, Richmond and Clifford's Tower in York. The award winning Brodsworth Hall, opened to the public in 1995, is one of England's most beautiful Victorian country houses.
We also offer advice on planning and other matters affecting the historic environment to central government, local authorities and all other interested organisations and individuals. We also give grants for the repair of the important historic fabric of historic buildings and ancient monuments.
