York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship
July 2004
Once again the Consortium was invited to
support English Heritage at their annual Open Day, this year held in bright
July sunshine at Rievaulx Abbey.
As before the occasion proved extremely popular with the public, and the
work of the eight members who demonstrated their skills was much admired. Simon Harvey, stained glass artist and
restorer, showed a replica he’d made of a piece of medieval glass recently
found on site. The complicated
locks brought by Val and George Olifent provided entertaining puzzles for many,
and once again the art of brickmaking was manfully attempted by queues of
children under the watchful eye of the team from York Handmade Brick. A great advertisement for the
Consortium and the members participating.
