The main Objects of the Trust are "to preserve for the benefit of the townspeople of the City of York in the county of North Yorkshire and of the nation at large, whatever of the English historical, architectural and constructional heritage may exist in and around the City of York aforesaid in the form of buildings of particular beauty or historical, architectural or constructional interest".
The Trust (formerly Ings Property Company Limited) was formed in 1945 by Dr John Bowes Morrell and his brother Cuthbert. The current Directors and Trustees (all related to the Founders) are keen to ensure that any property for sale, covered by the above Objects, should be, where possible, acquired by the Trust and returned to its former glory rather than being left to fall into disrepair.

In recent years the Trust has purchased several of the City of York Council's properties viz: The Red House, The Assembly Rooms, 56 Bootham (The Register Office) and The De Grey Rooms/House, in order to ensure that they are preserved and retained for the use of the citizens of York.
The Register Office is an excellent example of the work done by the Trust where a new Marriage Room was designed and constructed and the garden totally landscaped in order to produce a building which is now the envy of other Registrars all over the country.
The Trust prides itself in always employing local tradesmen, who have to work to a very high standard, which further adds to the prosperity of the City and can be viewed on the website at www.yorkconservationtrust.org.
