Championing York's Architectural and Cultural Heritage

Our mission is to keep "special" by:

• providing a strong voice to promote the conservation of the City's unique historic fabric
• giving expert planning guidance to local government, and campaigning on major city-wide issues
• providing independent advice to both local and national policy-makers, unfettered by political, private, or commercial constraints
• making grants for the City's enhancement

We have taken the lead on major successful initiatives, e.g. the foundation of the University of York, and the closure of Deangate to traffic.  We operate, in Fairfax House, a nationally recognised museum which is a venue for important exhibitions.  Our restorations of historic buildings such as Fairfax House, Peaseholme House and the Mansion House, stand as exemplars of best practice.  Our publications, particularly our Annual Reports, serve as a permanent record of York's development and the Trust's achievements.
