The Works Department or 'Stoneyard' has been in its present location at 4 Deangate since 1913. It is a centre of excellence for many traditional crafts including masonry, carving and carpentry.

Although much of the work carried out in the Stoneyard is done by hand, modern stone profiling equipment is extensively used to cut stones to basic shapes before carving is started.

These machines follow templates made at the yard and can achieve a fine accurate finish. All our stone cutting equipment is available at competitive rates for private contract work, using stone supplied by the client. Blocks of stone up to 5 tonnes can be accomodated at the yard.
