- Architectural Stone Carving and Heritage Restoration
Martin Coward has 30 years of experience in stone carving, working at Cathedrals such as Gloucester and Chichester. Employed as a Stone Carver and Assistant to the Master Mason at York Minster, Martin carved many of the scenes on the Great West Doorway and latterly designed and carved the statue of St Peter on the East End.
Last year Martin set up his own business as a Stone Carver & Letter Cutter based in the Howardian Hills, North of York. Work has included designing and carving a Gargoyle for Ripon Cathedral and also teaching Setting-Out at Lincoln Cathedral. He also plays an important role as Carving Module Leader for the Cathedral Workshop Fellowship.
Using hand tools and traditional methods of carving, Martin works sympathetically on heritage buildings and can be contacted regarding private sculpture, memorial and letter cutting commissions.
