  • Building and Restoration Specialists

William Birch & Sons Ltd. has provided restoration and building services for over 140 years. Our skilled and dedicated teams specialise in historic refurbishment and have been involved in some of the region’s most important civic and cultural buildings. We understand the sensitive and inherently complex nature of restoring heritage buildings and we provide solutions for each unique challenge. We have been busy working on some of these most historic and treasured buildings.

Described as a jewel in the crown of the East Coast, the historic Grade 1 Listed Sewerby Hall and Gardens has undergone a major phased transformation, completed by William Birch for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The interior of the stately home has been restored to how it would have looked in the year 1900 and in addition a new estate office, orientation room, classrooms and a shop have been developed.

In celebrating the success of the scheme the project team won the Heritage Project of the Year Award at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2015, held at the National Railway Museum in York. William Birch is also proud to have restored and extended the historic Grade II Listed York Explore Library for the City of York Council.

This £2m high profile project at the heart of the city centre has provided a state-of-the-art store and reading room for important archive material, a refurbished local history library and family history centre, and repairs and conservation to the original parquet floor and slate roof along with new heating.
