Foundation Trustee and Honorary Secretary James Grierson has recently been appointed as Chair of York Museums Trust. He is pictured in the Castle Museum’s much-loved Kirkgate in front of a retail name that will be very familiar to the Consortium’s older members (including James). Significant work is under way to prepare for a major extension and refurbishment to the Castle Museum in a project which will better reveal the story of York’s Castle, its Debtors’ and Women’s prisons and the extraordinary richness of its collections. The proposal will form a key part of the Castle Gateway regeneration scheme which will create one of the North’s most beautiful public spaces.
