YCCC AGM, Bursary Awards and John Shannon Memorial Lecture
Join us for an evening at Bedern Hall. Help us celebrate the achievements of our talented bursary winners, and enjoy a fascinating lecture by Professor Robin Coningham – UNESCO Chair in Archaeological Ethics and Practice in Cultural Heritage at the University of Durham.
Rebuilding the Kasthmanadap: Research, reconstruction and resilience
Professor Robin Coningham presents an interdisciplinary case study of research,
reconstruction and resilience after the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake in Nepal. This talk will illustrate how UNESCO’s essential recognition of intangible heritage underpins a specific reconstruction project. It will highlight the collaboration between archaeologists, craftspeople, conservators, heritage scientists and architects necessary for the reconstruction of a single monument.
We believe that this talk will provide valuable perspectives on the YCCC’s central concern for the importance of preserving our craft skills for the future, in the context of the kind of major global disaster which – in a time of dramatic climate change – is likely to become increasingly common.
The programme for the evening is as follows:
(YCCC Members Only)
18:00 Annual General Meeting
(YCT and Special Guests)
18:45 Food and drinks reception and bursary winner poster exhibition
19:15 Bursary Awards
20:00 John Shannon Memorial Lecture
21:30 Close
We do hope that you can join us for what will be an unmissable evening!
